It’s officially 2011. If you’re reading this then that means you made it to see another year. Ain’t God good?
So now what?
If you’re anything like me you’re making your list of 2011 goals and looking back at 2010. I don’t know about you but I’m glad she’s gone. 2010 was an emotional roller-coaster for me but I did have many good times. So I’ll start there…
In Dec. 2009 I started my blog Notorious Spinks Talks. My friend BrownGirl encouraged me to start a book blog since I read so many books. After much head nodding, I stopped procrastinating and in 2010 I eased my way into a blogging routine. In efforts to promote my blog I increased my presence on Twitter and Facebook and started to take the two social media mediums seriously.
As I Facebook’ed and Tweet’ed away I found out about the Blogging While Brown conference. Without much hesitation or procrastination I packed up for Washington, D.C. and hit the friendly sky. I didn’t know what to expect but I was ready to network, party, learn and party. Did I say party? But seriously, BWB was my aha moment.
I had the opportunities to meet my Twitter friends, @TheCubicleChick and @DoktaDivah. I also met @Glamazini, @LeReg, @MsleJean, @AnandaLeek and @AndreaAmir.  These are just a few of the many great people I met.
However there was someone that I met that caught me totally off guard. When I first heard people talking about Afrobella I was thinking, who is this lady? The people that were mentioning her name were in awe. I was totally clueless. However as an observer that let me know I needed to meet her. So I walked up to her and introduced myself and exchanged greetings. Moving right along… or so I thought. As fate would have it, Afrobella was scheduled to sit on the panel, Breakthrough Bloggers. During the session, she talked about her life as a blogger and how she started blogging, etc. Then she told her story of how she stepped out on faith and and became a full-time blogger. I was in awe as she talked about how blogging changed her life. To be honest, it was then that I began to take blogging seriously.
I went from being a blogger to a Blogger over the course of a hour.
I left BWB with a feeling of accomplishment. Not only am I a Blogger but I’m an Influencer, a Tastemaker, a Trendsetter, a Brand Ambassador and ALL that other good stuff. I literally have the power to shape my future with my keystrokes. So I have to thank Afrobella for sharing her story and helping me to see a bigger picture.
On the other hand, when I got back it seemed like my life started to spiral downward. Things just stared to get out of control. I was about to work on my last semester of school but ended up only being able to take two of the three classes I needed to graduate. So I’m in for another semester but all is good. My car broke down took a vacation and I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. However, favor is present sometimes even in the storm and “Friend” stepped in and made sure I was straight. If it were not for her kindness, generosity and friendship I probably would not have finished my two classes with an “A” and a “B.” And for that I’m still thankful. Thank you Friend.
I guess all wasn’t too bad…
So out with the old and in with the new!
Well for 2011 I have some great things planned:
- For starters I created this blog as a way to get more personable with my readers, share my views and to learn more about my readers.  I found myself wanting to share more about current events and other topics and my book blog just didn’t seem like the appropriate place. So I hope you enjoy.
- My book blog is moving to the URL http://www.books.yolondaspinks.com. It will be up and running Monday morning.
- I will be starting a Blog Talk Radio show or Podcast mid- January so look out for that.
- I have committed to get healthier minus 50lbs by July so I am creating a fitness challenge for us that want to strive toward better health.
- For all my book lovers, I will be creating a book challenge. More info to come in the next couple of weeks.
- The 30-day Road to Discovery.
So for now that is all but I promise to keep you all in the loop as I work to make Notorious Spinks Blog the best. Be sure to follow us via RSS, email subscription, Twitter, Facebook & YouTube because you never know what we’re coming with. Stay in the know.
